An odd thing to get excited about….

Is it really okay to get excited about an ironing board? I mean over-the-top, dancing-around-the-sewing-room, my-lord-the-wife-has-lost-her-mind kind of glee? Because that was what you saw at my house when I set this baby up.

I was SO tired of constantly tugging and pulling on my ironing board cover, which would pull up and roll over the [...]

Dodecahedron

It’s pronounced “doe-deck-a-HEE-drun” – according to my geek husband.  It’s a 12-sided object.  Here is half of it.

I knew there wasn’t going to be time or space for any quilting over the Christmas holidays, so I picked up a couple of quilting magazines from the bookstore to keep me happy.  When I flipped through the [...]

Little Wallet

While I was at Quilt Expo in Portland last month, I spotted this cute pattern.
It was only $3.00, so I bought it.
Today was one of those “meh” days.  You know, a day when you’re feeling kind of blue, but you’re not sure why?  And you just can’t get motivated to work on anything, and nothing [...]

Art imitating life?

Is it just me, or does this flower look like a quilt block?

Huh.  Will you look at that.
It’s a “Seven Sisters” block.  Might have to put this one on the bucket list, just because I love the plant so much!

There’s no rehab for stupidity

Wade gave me a Kindle for Christmas.  Immediately realizing that I needed to make a cover to keep it clean and unscathed,  I went a-hunting and found the perfect fabrics – for the outside, a totally cool Moda vinyl that looks like embossed red leather, and a gorgeous print from Fine Lines Fabric for the [...]

Sackboy love

My ten year old son, Preston, loves a PlayStation game called Little Big Planet, which is an awesome game.  You play the game with an avatar: the Sackboy.
Sackboy is highly customizable – for instance, you can dress him up in various costumes, give him facial hair, change his fabric (skin) and even turn him into [...]

The Christmas Tree Ornament Story

Please allow me to go off on a tangent – this story DOES have a quilting angle, however vague and fleeting it may be.  Plus, it’s simply a funny story.  I can say that NOW.
Every year our family makes Christmas tree ornaments.  My hope is when my children are grown, they can decorate their trees [...]

Lesson learned

I’ve always loved trapunto. Whenever I’ve seen a quilt at a show that incorporates trapunto I always think “Shoot, I could do that. Wouldn’t be much harder. Just an additional step.”
I gave it a try last weekend. Took me all day Sunday to make this…

….and it’s not even sewn to that dark background fabric yet! [...]

Peggi’s Pretty Pink Paducah Purse

LOL! Try saying that fast three times! There’s only 15 days until Paducah, so I thought I’d pass the time making these neck purses for Peggi & I to wear.

The last time I was in Paducah AQS gave us neck badge holders, but they had only one zip pocket. I liked being able to carry [...]

Duffel bag – does this count as quilting too??

<span style=”color:#800080;”>When I was in North Carolina a month ago my niece asked if I would make her  a duffel from<span style=”color:#003300;”> <em><a title=”Duffle bag pattern” href=”http://www.simplicity.com/p-1558-accessories.aspx” target=”_blank”>Simplicity Pattern #2600</a></em></span>.  It calls for pre-quilted fabric. Why is it the only pre-quilted fabric you can find is for babies? So, she picked out the fabrics she [...]
