Australia T-shirt Quilt & free-motion practice

Well, I think I’m done with T-shirt quilts for a while! This one is mine. I collected t-shirts on our Australia vacation with my DH, my sister and my cool-as-hell BIL. Three weeks of bliss for our 25th anniversaries. This is the quilt I used to create my T-shirt quilt tutorial. Quilt-finished

I decided to use this quilt for practice. I’m not that great on my mid-arm machine, and wanted to be able to try out some free-motion quilting. So I decided to do different quilting in each square. Which, by the way these blocks ARE square. I just suck at taking pictures. Boy, do I have a LOT of practicing to do! Click on any picture to enlarge and see how bad some of them REALLY are.

Okay, I’ve done these before. Yawn. The old go-to quilt design. But isn’t the design on the t-shirt cool??

One of my favorites. Love this design! Plus, it's hard to screw up...always a plus.

Again, done before....but more practice!

Thought I'd try out the straight ruler. Obviously I need to learn to read the measurement markings on it....

Didn't do too well with the circle ruler here. Holding those bad boys can be difficult!

I free-handed around Australia. Not too bad. Not great though. Slooow and steady does it.

This was our first hotel – and the BEST! Love the rays, even if they weren’t completely straight. But I did pretty darn good on the half-circle!

One of our favorite bars on Manly Beach. Since the shirt had hearts, I quilted them. Looks pretty good!

What a beautiful place! Since it was a forest, I did leaves. Love these!

So all-in-all, not bad….but not great. It was SO much more fun being able to practice without worrying about screwing up someone else’s quilt. No fear on this one!

  1. I think I could do some squiggly lines in a 10 x 10 area! I mean it’s gonna be what it is, but it will be squiggly lines.
