Pineapple progress

Here’s my progress so far on the Pineapple quilt kit I bought in Paducah:

I am absolutely loving it.  Click on the picture to enlarge it, take 4 steps back from your monitor and look at it again.  Isn’t it gorgeous?  A long time ago, Cindi gave me one of those door peep holes, the kind you look through to see who’s knocking on your door.  I used it to peek at my quilt and was immediately reassured that the fabrics were working together and everything would be okay.

This quilt is going to be mine, all mine.

I have to say, it’s also been one of the easiest blocks I’ve ever put together.  I had a quarter yard (the long kind, not the fat kind) of each fabric.  I cut them in strips the short way, so the strips are only 9 inches long.  Very, very easy to sew and cut the excess off.  Then I simply use the excess part of the strip on the next block. I end up with very little waste this way, and the piecing is going really fast.

In other “pineapple” news, I tried this recipe for Grilled Chicken and Pineapple Quesadillas out on my family tonight.  It got a hearty 2 thumbs up from everyone, including the Hubster, who travels a LOT for his job and has eaten in every single restaurant in America. He says they’re the best quesadillas he’s ever had.  Can’t get a better review than that!

  1. Do you have a photo of the quilting design you used on that beautiful Pineapple Quilt? Or, can you give me any suggestions? I have a Pineapple ready for sandwiching – it became more complex than I planned, but I am at a loss for a quilting design. I quilt on my DSM.

    • Hi Elaine,
Actually, I haven’t quilted my pineapple yet. I’m still trying to decide if I want to leave it this size or add borders.

I have a friend who quilted her pineapple quilt with a feather motif designed for a double wedding ring pattern, maybe that will give you a place to start. 🙂
